A drop-off is not a delayed conversion

Funnel tools love a 24-hour window because it fits on a slide. Thai payment behaviour does not. Payday cycles, PromptPay confirmation, and bank-hour settlement regularly push a successful conversion past the window your dashboard calls “lost.”

Conversion drop-off diagnostics treat time as a first-class dimension. Before you declare a step dead, draw the cumulative conversion curve out to seven days, then to a full pay cycle. If the curve is still climbing on day four, you do not have a drop-off story. You have an impatient window.

How this shows up in Khon Kaen and Bangkok differently

Campus marketplaces near universities often convert after class hours, not during the lunch spike your growth lead loves. A grocery delivery app in Bangkok may settle PromptPay in minutes; the same rail for a smaller upcountry bank can take the afternoon. Averaging those populations into one “checkout conversion” invents a national personality that does not exist.

In Cohort Maps for Retention Leaks we force the split: acquisition week versus pay week. Teachers paid on the 28th look like Day-7 failures if you hired them on the 22nd. They are not failures. They are waiting for salary.

Reporting without sounding like you are making excuses

Leadership hears “users are just slow” as avoidance. Bring the curve. Show the 24-hour rate and the 7-day rate side by side. Name the rail. Propose a product change only if the long window is still flat. If the long window recovers, the product change you wanted may be a notification, not a redesign.

A clean sentence looks like this: “24-hour complete-order is 41 percent; 7-day is 63 percent, concentrated after Thursday deposits. Hypothesis: windowing, not UX. Disconfirm by comparing prepaid wallet users, who should not wait on salary.”

That is diagnosis. It is less glamorous than a new onboarding illustration, and usually cheaper. If you want a room that practices the distinction, start with Signal Reading or the flagship studio.
